I plan to work with BETA. My friend does volunteer work through her job at Universal and BETA is one of the groups they have access to. I've filled out all the required paperwork and will be faxing it this week to BETA.

I will probably be working alone and with a group. My first time will likely be with my friend and her group from work. Then I may work on my own.

The first day, I believe I will be helping with child care for the babies/children of the young mothers. (Does this count toward our assignment???)

Ultimately, I would like to get to work directly with the mothers, as I was a teen mom, as well. I feel I could offer them advice or insight or some sort of education in that realm. (I'm sort of excited about this prospect.) : )

I plan on working with VOX at UCF. I plan on working by myself at this point. I started working with VOX last semester and LOVED it. In fact, I've already gone to a couple meetings this semester, tabled and helped with our benefit at Natura. This semester, we are have two more events, including a religious leaders panel and "Sex on the Lawn". After talking with Abigale, we agreed to have a Girls health table with info for young girls regarding their health and sexual wellbeing. If anyone hasn't decided what to do yet, VOX is an awesome opportunity.

I will be helping to facilitate the group with a LMHC.om their brochure it states that "Our goal is to celebrate young women trying to navigate through a world filled with confusion, temptation, peer pressure, violence, experimentation, sexuality as well as other family issues".

When I was in Intro to Women's Studies, my service learning project centered around the BETA center, and I helped out with child care, donating clothes and supplies, etc. Since I have already experienced the BETA center, I will work with the National Organization of Women Campus Action Network. I plan to work with them, but by myself (aka without collaborating with anyone else from this class). I will attend meetings, help organize events, and basically do whatever it is they need me to do. I am especially interested in NOW because I just finished "The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedan, who is the founder of NOW, and I respect what she had to say and the sweeping change she ignited for women in the 1960's.

My Service Learning project will be with the Girls Scouts (troop 7079) based out of Metro West Apartment complex in Orlando Florida. My mission is to help facilitate learning experiences for the scouts and involve myself in adolescent female activities. Also, I specifically want to work with girls in a low socioeconomic status because there is a need for young girls with fewer resources to gain more understanding when dealing with social, academic, and physical situations.

In addition, I will be adding other activities from AAUW when activities arise...such as the PACE Thanksgiving Luncheon.

My Service-Learning project is to work with an organization entitled Community Girls, INC. Community Girls is an organization that teaches girls 10 to 17 the importance of community service. Adult volunteers plan and chaperone the activities such as collecting and wrapping toys for holiday parties, collecting food and making fleece blankets for homeless and sick children. Eatheana West

I plan on working with the Gay Straight Alliance as well as with UCF's GLBSU. In October Orlando hosts the Pride festival and parade and I'll be working with GLBSU at that event. Gainesville is also holding their pride event in October and working with the GSA as a chaperon for high school students.

I'll be working alone and with a group. My ultimate goal is to spread the idea of tolerance and acceptance for young women.

I want to work with an organization such as The Pace Center for Girls.

I plan to design an informative manual or pamphlet regarding a relevant issue on anything the organization needs. I will consider things such as: Health, Diversity, Education, and Societal Pressures.

I intend to contact the organization and inquire about a relevant project in which to pursue.

I plan to work with Girl Scouts. I have had a little trouble finding information, but am in the process. The troop I plan to work with is located in my cousins school. I am planning to work with the 4th-5th graders. I was a Girl Scout growing up and believe that girls need a strong role model. I am looking forward to be part of this troop!

I will probably be working with Victim's Advocates this semester, helping with their clothesline project (raising awareness for domestic and sexual abuse) and tabling for them. I say probably because their intern/volunteer open house is in three days.

If that doesn't work out, I plan to contact VOX and work with them.

I plan on working with the BETA center. I've worked with them in the past as a community service project with my sorority. I enjoyed it very much and I am definitely looking forward to getting more involved this semester. I've noticed that several other people are interested in the BETA center as well. I was planning on working alone; however, if anyone is interested in working as a group, please let me know. :)

I'm going to be working with the New Image Youth Center (if you google, it will come right up) on Parramore and Church. It is located in an extremely poverty-stricken part in Orlando, and provides care for middle-school and high school students. They work to encourage education as well as other morals and values. I hope to instill my values and morals into the young girls, and create a positive environment for them despite their hard times in home life and other aspects of their lives.

I plan to work with the Girl Scouts. I have submitted my application and I hope to hear back soon. I was a Girl Scout growing up and I would like to give back to an organization that gave me so many great memories. I'm going to be working on my own.

I plan to volunteer at the BETA Center for my service learning assignment. I have already gone to the required BETA Breakfast. I will work alone most of the time, and sometimes in a group with Volunteer UCF. I think this will give me a better view of different situations that young girls are in. I would like to accomplish a better sense of how they overcome obstacles like early pregnancy, and make sure they know they are not alone, regardless of any struggles they must overcome.

I also plan to work with the BETA center off of Lake Underhill Road. I first heard of BETA through the link on the syllabus but I'm already psyched to get involved in helping young women and their families.

From my contact with BETA I understand that I will be doing most of my volunteer work in the center's childcare center which supports the children of young mothers. I will be filling out the paperwork on Thursday and plan to get started the following week.

Since this is a girl's studies class and I will be working in childcare I hope to get a first hand look at what today's girls are learning and hopefully serve as a positive role model in their lives and development.

My plan is to work with the Girl Scout programs, "which encourage girls to build their self-esteem and confidence, to speak up for things they believe are right and to be the leaders of today."
I will be a a short-term volunteer. I will get the opportunity to mentor young girls, do community service, and provide the girls with cultural awareness.
I will be working on my own. My goal is to have a positive influence on the young girls I will be working with.

I have been creating a website called God's Truth For Women and Girls . On this website, I will have Daily Devotionals for women and girls for a month long period. The whole idea behind this website is for one person to see it and they will tell others about it. I am trying to change the lives of women and girls through the Word of God. Many people do not know about God cares about them, and I think it's really important that the word gets spread. Also featured on the website will be links to domestic violence awareness month events and also breast cancer awareness events. I am also going to be creating flyers for everyday October for Domestic Violence Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness. On each other these flyers there will be daily devotionals that people can share with their families and friends that are struggling with these problems. In order to prepare myself for the ability to share the Word of God to others, I have been doing bible study for the past few weeks from Beth Moore's "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place."

I am creating a blog where girls can come and talk about issues that are important to them. I’ll chime in here or there with a question or topic, but I want the blog to be about the girls. I am doing the project by myself. I want the blog to center on issues that are the very center of what it is to be a girl. I was inspired by the book, “RED..” I appreciate how candid the girls are and hope for the same type of conversation in my blog.

I am going to be working with the Girl Scouts with my sorority doing various events. Such as campus tours. I am also participating in a hat decorating for a badging ceremony for the Girl Scouts at the end of October. I just saw on your site information about doing other Girl Scout events, and contacted Valerie. I am also planning on making a facebook group for teenage girls. I would like to make it informational for girls to talk to other girls about life(problems,possibilities,experiences)... I would like to start it for the Orlando area then add more information to expand. Perhaps putting Girl Scout events on it?! I plan to have over 15 hours and hope this all goes well! I will include pictures from the events that I do.
