The "ins and outs" of middle school friendships

This was an article I found by Sue Blaney describing the emotional conflict many children face when dealing with the pressures of middle school. This is an age that as children slowly mature, when they find themselves further away from the securities of their families, they are "thrust" into the social dichotomy of the school group dynamic and the social hierarchy that inevitably occurs. It is interesting to see how the progression into this time can be alleviated by having a broader outlook on how interactions at this age are perceived. Although it may seem futile, the author advises on several ways to alleviate, and essentially prepare the child for this difficult time.
