prom pressures

I found this link to a site that directly ties in with our readings this week. It is interesting to see a website dedicated to illustrating how young girls should desire to look so alluring, yet still remain "innocent" in the eyes of society every other day. Isn't this a confusing message we are sending young girls? There should be more emphasis on inner beauty and strength versus body image.

I totally agree with you. Our young people are our most precious asset and as such, they should be respected. Adolescent and teenage girls need not dress in a provocative way because it sends the wrong message.

Recently, there was an article about Abercrombie and Fitch who was advertising a kid's clothing line depicting an 8 year old girl with a padded push-up bikini top.

Dr. Eileen Zurbriggen, a psychologist states, "We're seeing younger and younger girls who are taking on this sexualized persona. As we sexualize younger and younger girls, it's sending a message that could be dangerous."
